| Tried it out as I have just bought a 2nd 5850 and a couple of other goodies. Still haven't found a headset I like. 3dmark 06. i7 920 @ 3.8 with 2 x 5850s. Win7 64bit | |

| nice score mofo great oc aswell what temps do you get at 3.8? how much higher did the second gpu get you?
going from my 8800's to the 5970 gave me 3000 xtra points.

| I was getting around 19k with the 3.6 o/c and the single 5850, similar to regats and rolla. With the 2nd it went to 24k and when i o/c'ed it to 3.8, it went that much higher again. (190 x 20 x 1.2 volts) I did another run at @ 3.8 and it hit 25650 but by that stage i had already posted here. That article here about cpu/cpu and scaling is quite correct how the o/c scales.
The Cpu now sits at idle around 49/52 and in game (bc2) can hit the 72/75 mark.
Time for the new case later this week i think as i'm still using my 5 year old coolermaster centurion 5 and even the psu is running really quite warm. Possibly the antec p180 mini (i'm using matx gear) which runs 2x 120's front, 1 x 120 rear and a 200 on the top. Good reviews and a quiet case.
I feel i have a small heater at my feet.

| ok....tried at 3.91ghz 170 * 23 stock voltage temps on cpu test got to 80degs 50degs idle I have water cooling from my last system but have been to busy to get a new block for the i7. When I get it should have no probs running at 4ghz+...... bbq anyone | |

| Installed gear into a new case (coolermaster sniper) and i'm idling @ 40ish @ 3.8 and @ 3.9 with 1.275 volts i'm idling at 44ish.
I will do another run @ 3.9 so that we have a comparison between 2x5850s and a 5970 which are meant to be rather equal although x-umes scores still tend to be a bit higher gpu wise.
Out of curiosity x-ume, why do you favour increasing the cpu ratio over the qpi to achieve the higher o/c?

| qpi? is that the frequency.
I am running at 166*23 at the moment.
To run at 3.9 I need to feed in more voltage to keep the system stable but runs fine at 3.8 @ 1.25 volts.
Tried 1.3 volts to keep it stable but still needs more. Read that 1.37 is good on air but most of the oc'ers use 1.4-1.47 volts when running at 4 gig with water cooling.

| Is it safe to raise your qpi?
My qpi multipliers are 24, 36 and 48 i think.
From what I have read lower settings allow a highter oc.

| 920 @ 199 x 20 @ 1.3 volts 3.98 ghz For some reason once i hit the 1604 mark on the dominator 1600 ram (memtested it etc.) i.e. 200x20=4ghz but ram hits 1604mhz = blue screen Can do the 21x19* to hit over 4ghz with ram under 1600=stable So i am using 199x20=3980Ghz idling mid day @40/45, max temps using occt being 72. | |

| Almost 4 ghz...missed it by that much I dont think its the ram stopping you, you should beable to get more out of the ram....say 1800mhz @ 1.66volts I get the blue blue screen @ 4ghz with 200 * 20 or it boots up but crashes when benchmarking. I'd say you need more voltage to make it stable. I had a lend of some 1600mhz dominator ram and had it running at 1900+ mhz and was stable, but I wouldn't recommend running it that high. You've got me looking at the qpi and uncore stuff now and raising the volts on those will also help keep the system stable at the 4 gig mark. sorry, I didnt read your post very well....I had the same problem with the ram @ around 1600 mhz but I did get it up to 1980 (165*12) not sure why or what I did to get it that high but it worked until I gave the ram back slightly singed. | |

| Ok, last oc.....for now Had trouble keeping stable @ 3.91 so I backed it off to 3.5, put turbo mode on and hey presto. Temps got to 85 though and I wont be running like that so turbo comes off. With turbo mode on it adjust all the voltages and clock multiplyers. clocks from 3.5 to 4.0 when required. So after turbo mode ramped up the test was run at 4000mhz with a core voltage of 3.5 | |

This is a thread for noobs who like PC's more than boobies. They take their PC, and run a program on it, that tells them how good all their weirdo crap is. Me? I just turn it on, and search for the porn
