What the devil is up with my ping !

my ping has been horrible lately ..


i thought it was my pc after - me and union went to crackhores for a game and my ping was 180 and his was 90 !

here are the steps i have taken..

partial rebuild reseating and formatting disks.
i have checked my settings and my connect speed is about 5.1mbps incoming and 798 kbps out ...

checked in task manager for which processes are running in case of updates ! and nothing !

downloaded AVG , Kapersky , microsoft essentials and ran virus scans nothing - also got malwarebytes - nothing

defraged cleaned up hard drives.

purchased a network card as i thought it could my dodgy old motherboard

still getting crappy old 150+ pings what the hell !

Help anyone ?

Mines been the exact same. I use to run 80 ping but now I haven't seen anything under 180

Do you use utorrent as I suspect maybe that as it all seemed to start after putting that on my pc

or something to do with ports

Shouldn't be uTorrent, I use that and I never have ping problems.

Maybe reset your modem to factory settings? (If it's not too much trouble to set your net back up again)

You never know, try removing uTorrent as well and reset your ports. If it's not that you can always put it back on.

is that through the regedit method ?

been thinking about the modem reset but my modem is a tesltra default and i am now with optus and its a bit of work to get the clunka working again !

The ping you get ingame is not ping, it's latency. They are different.


Open command prompt (cmd) and type


ping www.google.com -t

Leave it to run for 10 seconds or so and keep an eye on the response times.

Mine is stable at 50-55

It should be stable, if not turn off every pc in the house and try again on your pc and your boys laptop.


If it's still unstable it's your internet. You could try and new line filter. It plugs into the phone socket before the modem/router. There should be one on every phone socket that has a phone plugged into it.

okay i am getting bytes=32 consistant time varies45-49 TTL=56 consistant.

gonna swap out for a new filter and rj45 cable

new line filter and rj 45 has dropped it down to 110 ping in game and time in cmd prompt is consistant 35 .. sweeet thanks phil you the man
