To tell you the truth Samsung is exactly what I was originally just going to look at.
Samsung P2370 23inch Wide 2ms TouchCtrols Slim CrystalBlack for $245
http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=143&bid=2&sid=51601

The above monitor showed as out of stock at Umart so i just took a look at ViewSonic since my current monitor has been great (but it's time to move the 19" LCD onto the kids PC).

What can you recommend in the Samsung line up in the 23" to 24" range?

After a bit more reading the Samsung P2370 seems the way to go as far as i can tell.

I jumped on the BenQ G2420HD when it was at an awesome price (new company/website put the wrong price up) and can't complain.

And the good points of the ASUS over the Samsung would be that it has HDMI, but then again the Samsung is 2ms instead of 5ms in terms of response time.

Here is a thread from some telemarketers in India (P2350 is close to the P2370)

Samsung P2350 Vs. BenQ G2420HD (WHICH ONE TO BUY)
http://www.erodov.com/forums/samsung-p2350-vs-benq-g2420hd-one-buy/29739.html

Some basic comparisons
http://www.all-monitors.com/compares/benq_g2420hd_vs_samsung_syncmaster_p2370

So at Umart we get
Samsung P2370 Not in stock at a bit under 23" for $245.50
Benq G2420H In stock at much closer to a full 24" for $255.50

Samsung monitor has a bit more style and LED backlit (don't think Benq is)
Benq seems to cover Samsung performance on paper and is a bitter screen, and it is in stock. So Benq seems a good option at the moment.
But I still can't help thinking about Samsung anyway
Smile

Samsung P2370 is now at end of life by the looks of it since it's pulled from umarts price list.

I just placed an order for the Samsung P2350 for $236

Good place for reviews if the monitor are available in EU

ms can be less important than input lag

Just unpacked my 23" Samsung P2350 that I got for $236 to replace my ViewSonic 19" monitor (now I can get rid of the kids 17" CRT)

This is my first time playing with a widescreen, so here are some screen shots to compare the two screen resolutions and FOV settings.
FIRST Photo: ViewSonic 1280x1024 with FOV of 78
SECOND Photo: Samsung 1920x1080 with FOV 59
Screen shots from isla Inocentes standing of the roof of the car near the upper Helo

Bit better field of view

Get a better zoom with Widescreen (note how much of the trees fit in the scope)
