Checked it out today. Tested everything myself, lights and all the rest, he's given me the car to play with today. Taking it to a mechanic to get an inspection at 3pm. Christ it's powerful Grin Some pretty bad damage to the sides of the rear bumper and front bumper and the inside is in pretty poor state (clearly cleaning the car is a new term to this guy) but otherwise it all seems fine. I'm going to offer him $2000 cash today if the mechanics check out.

The guy looks like a Jamaican drug-runner so that would explain the heavy mileage Wink

Oh and the budget of $10,000 was a long time ago to whoever commented, this ute I'm paying for all myself, including insurance, rego, stamp duty, service.. I'll own it outright in 3 weeks time but mum's helping me out for now.

Well I hope it goes well mate. I mean really... if you can get a holden ute - high mileage or not - for $2000, then youre on a massive winner. As long as the mechanic doesnt report back $15,000 worth of faults then congratulations mate. Be sure to ask him about how everything is wearing, not just how it is NOW, but how it'll be in another 6 months.

Oh and Live - out of all the comments in 6 pages of car buying advice - this little pearler has to take the cake. +1 for you my man! lmao lmao lmao

Did a revs check all the rest, took it to a mechanic, needs a bit of work to pass rego (around $500) so he's going to fix it all up then give me a new price. Interesting. Owell, he didn't give me a choice so I'll just have to wait and see what he says and go from there...

So I own the ute now. It's currently in for a rego test over night but it seems to all work well. Took it to work and back last night and had an awesome time. So turns out it was just a good bargain Grin

Nice mate! Keep us up to date, let us know how it passes rego etc.

So you paid $2,800 for the ute, plus $500 for repairs? Is that it? Anything else?

2nd hand Holden ute for < 3,500 bucks is a bloody good deal mate! Grin

I insured it as soon as I got in the car. Got a cover note and all the rest.

Nah I bargained him down to $2500. Took it to my favourite mechanic, he said it can pass rego for $300 but I'm also getting him to make it as reliable as possible without worrying about the dents and scratches. So it may cost slightly more but at least I know I'll be able to rely on it.

Ute - $2500
Third party fire and theft in my name - $570
Roadworthy Certificate - $300 to pass
Stamp duty will be $60
3 months rego = $258
Transfer of rego and renewal = $60

Think thats everything.. oh and its being serviced as we speak but I don't know how much that will be.
