If youve got 2 minutes to have a read of a long post - well I was reading an article in some gamer magazine all about BF3. I found some interesting topics which havent all been discussed yet. Most good, some bad depending on your point of view.

The graphics are likened to BC2 in a way - but the developers have created a way with the new Frostbite 2.0 for all the graphics info/rendering to be processed so much faster, kind of pre packaged, that it allows them to add MUCH MUCH MORE detail in each image. The point they made was that "We position a probe to examine how light is affected by dynamic objects, and then we use many multiple probes in any given area." But the cool point he makes: "One small probe contains more lighting information than an entire level of BC2"..............................................



Also the audio will be clearer - with more true to life distinction between sounds. So you will definitely be able to tell the difference between movement outside your building, and movement on the floorboards below. The audio team actually went out to a national Swedish Defence Force training manoeuvre and whacked up 100's of microphones around the place. They then recorded real audio from actual war games, which will be used in game. So tanks 5 metres away will sound different to tanks heading away from you 40 metres away.



The destruction of the environment has been increased as well. Particles of dust and debris will form an active part of the game area. So if a wall is shot out and it takes 45 seconds for the dust to clear ... you need to wait and hide, or fight the enemy in a big old dust cloud.



And one of the cooler things I read was that actual player animation has taken on a whole new level. The mob at DICE have used the human animations developed for EA's "EA SPORT" games.... and will plug them into the FPS genre for the first time. So more realistic movement and flexibility of our soldiers.

For example, a players head will turn left/right before the gun in his hands does - if you snap around to see what that noise was behind you. Proning and movement while proned have all been made drastically more real. No more "floating over surfaces" when the terrain underneath your character is bumpy / uneven. Also therefore dolphin diving is gone, because you simply cant do it in real life.



It all seems absolutely excellent. The game reviewers who wrote the article I read, said that they were allowed to see the full version of that 43 second sneak peak youtube vid (which lasts 5 minutes or so). They said that at one point in a set piece of game play they witnessed "the most realistic building collapse they had ever seen in any video game, ever."





As for actual game-play: Looks like Kill-cam is here to stay (At least for softcore mode. The head developer added that individual servers would be able to turn kill-cam off).
And the role of "commander" is gone and staying gone. He said "only 2 ppl could really use it at any one time, and we now want to open up all those commander type actions to all the players - for example similar to what we did with the UAV's in BC2."

Changes coming to squads too. Not sure what... but they hinted at more than 4 players per squad, and perhaps working within 2 squads and being able to hop between the 2.... all speculation on the part of the magazine article on that last point though.

He also mentions proning. His exact words were "Prone is fun for the person proning. But how fun is it to not see someone shooting you? None at all. So thats our challenge. There are alot of ways of countering it - muzzle flash is one of them. As are vapour traces. The bigger the gun, the bigger the trace".









Some interesting food for thought there. Props to the Frostbite 2.0 engine hey? I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now i can see why they have turned all there attention on BF3 over the past couple of years. Awsome attention to detail. But am thinking im going to have to take out a second morgage on the house for a new rig to play this bad boy.
