| May as well create a thread for this .... as 3/4 of the clan has now either tried to help me fix it, or at least heard about it. As the topic suggests - Im having issues with lagging out in game. Basically I lag like a monkey with too much bootlegged booze under my belt. And its proper net lag, not graphics lag. Rubberbanding in the extreme. Sprint 10 metres in a straight line and its like walking through mud, only to be sprung back by 2 metres. I run towards a doorway, miss it and finish half way up a ladder thats 3 metres away before I know whats going on. All started after a crash of windows that required a reinstall of my OS. The things that are different now, as to before: New install of windows that went onto a new SSD - now the primary boot drive. (Old install of windows on another HDD has been 99.9% wiped). BC2 now installed on the SSD as well. AVG antivirus given the flick. Replaced by Microsoft Security Essentials New Audio drivers and Ethernet drivers for my MoBo. All else is identical. All other applications perform perfectly. All other aspects of my connection are flawless/identical to before. Upload/download speeds spot on. Ping and speed test fine. I can download anything I want at the speed I would expect. I can play BC2 in single player mode perfectly. Modem working as it should. Things I have tried so far: Updated ethernet drivers from manufacturers website (multiple times) Disable UPnP on modem Disable QoS Packet Scheduler and RealTek Teaming Protocol Driver (NDIS 6.2) from Windows Network Connections Checked my ping and packet loss on command prompt to the internode server (perfect results) What I still have to try: Disabling Realtek Audio Driver Reseting my internet setup via winsock reset on cmd prompt. (Although this has been largely ruled out as a solution) Buying an ethernet card and using it - rather than the onboard ethernet connection whoosit from my Motherboard. Fisting a chicken and inserting a hamster up its rectum Raging a bit more and buying a new PC, new house and new porn collection (for Nutta) Whatever the outcome is, Id just like to thank everyone who's helped me already and for all the time that everyone has given me towards solving the issue. (In order of who's already had a shot at helping me) Big thanks to Lucky, Mephisto, Bubba, Fullnutta, Mooshoo, Reign and Union.Jack - and anyone else who's sat down with me and talked me through possible solutions that Ive left out. Thanks guys. BLOODY PC's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |

| hey mate I'm no expert by far but at what you have described my "Guess" would be router not communicating with your PC properly, maybe ports or something directly associated with bc2. Dunno and I would say you've already checked all that
Hope you get on top of it soon man

| Havent looked at port forwarding etc, to be honest. But the wiser heads than mine dont seem to think it will be the issue. There may still be something in it all though, but it will be checked further down the list. The funniest thing is - Tuesday night I changed the QoS Packet business that I mentioned above, and the whole thing seemed to come good! Restarted my PC a couple of times since then, and tonight when I went gaming... back to crappy lag. No idea what the difference was and I havent entirely ruled out a fault at my ISP's end. It just seems far too coincidental that Ive never had a internet problem in 3 years with this ISP, and in the 4 days my PC is away having changes made, my net craps out for one particular application (ie: BC2). But cheers Reefer old mate. And after I was bagging out all the WA ppl tonight and all.... Haha! Youve got to stop letting Fullnutta be your states representative on TS at nights mate. He is making you look like a pack of muppets | |

| Did u get on to Gigabyte about any archived Ethernet drivers? Or any other technical support from them? It is possible that ur Ethernet port is fucked. My port on my old comp got fried in a thunder storm one night, bought a Ethernet adaptor and fixed it straight away... But still I think try and get some older drivers and test them, then buy an adaptor if nothing changes... If that doesn't fix it possibly a mobo problem! Which sucks!! Do you know anyone who you can test there net and see if you still get lag? | |

| I would go to a pc store and buy the cheapest network card they have, take it home install and test.
If it comes good, great if not you wasted the price of a 6 pack.
At leat you'll know then if it's your adapter or not.

| Indeed. Lots of different ideas coming in from lots of different sources. Bubba I didnt go all the way through with the problem ticket with Gigabyte simply because the amount of info they required was mind blowing. Going into BIOS and other hidden corners of my system to find markers and identifiers to show them my exact set up. Not ruling this out but I have a few things that (for me at least) seem simpler to do, and I can do right away. At this point Ive got 2 things I want to do before anything else: - Im going to try and find my old MoBo install disk and after deleting the current newer version Mobo ethernet drivers I'll install the older drivers off the disk. (These are the drivers I would have had prior to last weeks PC upgrade.) The only hiccup is finding the disk!
- The other one is turning off the Realtek Audio drivers and seeing if that has an impact. (Apparently some people had major lag thanks to the realtek audio drivers monopolising their CPU's processing power or similar. My audio drivers have been changed too, so possibly what was fine is now a problem with those drivers too). I'll probably do this first, as I dont need to hunt for an install disk to try it out
If this doesnt work, then its ethernet card. If thats a no go, then I'll contact gigabyte. If that doesnt work then I scream out in full blown Nerd Rage and take it back to old mate who "fixed it" last time and try it all on his net connection. If it carries on there too - maybe we can trouble shoot on the spot. I'll post up how the first round of simple stuff went either lunchtime tomorrow, or Sunday evening. Cheers for your help lads.

| Yeah, I recommend removing the audio drivers and playing with no sound see if that makes a difference (I've had so many computers where dodgy audio has created unplayable lag or crashed games).
Another idea, just for an hour to test or whatever, assign your computer a fixed internal IP inside your router, place it in the DMZ (outside of firewall), disable microsoft security essentials, and see if that improves things (there'd be no need for port forwarding etc but does leave your computer vulnerable to attack.. supposedly).

If the game works in single player try playing on an unranked server to see if it is punkbuster. Have you updated PB since reinstall? Deactivate windows update? Uninstall audio drivers and only use your g35 drivers. Do other online games do the same thing or is it just BC2 maybe put WoW back on?

| Lol Zoomie. I'll get right on to my warcraft CD collection. I did install pb and do all the manual updates - actually it was the very first thing I tried.. so far back down the line I forgot to mention that I did it. Havent deactivated windows updates (never had an issue before, but I will look at it after the audio driver business.) I'll have to find another game and try it out online... in all honesty I have 20 - 30 games collecting dust around the place but the only thing I play online is this. Tonight / this arvo I'll be back at it! This was just a quick read through the forums after a long weekend with the misses... lol. Catch ya's up soon | |

| Ive done nearly everything now. (Havent installed the Lan Card but I will do tomorrow if I cant overcome things tonight).
Right now Im uninstalling the game off my SSD and reinstalling to the good old HDD.
I ran command prompt and did all the other things the guys recommended - even played with a constant ping test going. Definitely no problems with the internet. Constant pings even when the game was lagging behind.
Its funny though, I dont get lag "spikes". I just get lag. Constant, stable 1/2 a second lag. As in, if I was able to self correct my character by just constantly running 2 metres further, going through doorways by walking into the wall 3 feet to the left of the door, aiming 2 metres in front of my target etc etc, I would be able to play normally!
Lets see how we go on the HDD. If not, LAN card. If not, back to old mate techo to try it on his net and see if he can replicate the fault.
I seriously am considering getting new gear for the PC though if its not right by the 20th of next month. NO WAY am I going to miss out on BF3!!!!! FUUUCCCKKK!!!! Its time for an upgrade soon anyway.... maybe I should just bump up my schedule.
See how it goes. Just shits me that EVERY SINGLE OTHER THING is fine other than my games. Bugger it.
